Mary Ann Chesley

November 13, 1933 — December 24, 2016

Mary Ann Chesley, 83 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at a local care facility.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Tess Panamarow will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Church.

Mary Ann was born November 13, 1933 in Sioux City; she was the daughter of Leonard E. and Rungna (Tiller) Nelson. Mary Ann attended Sioux City Schools graduating from Central High School in 1952. She would live her entire life until the time of her stroke on the same city block here in Sioux City.

 

On October 16, 1953, she married John E. Chesley in Sioux City. He passed away on December 22, 2015 in Sioux City.

 

Mary Ann worked various jobs while raising her family. When the kids were grown, she was employed at Security National Bank Trust Department until retiring in 1996.

 

She bowled in the early years, was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading. Mary Ann was a member of the Tuesday morning golf league at Sun Valley for several years and was a cheerleader for her kids and grandkids “everything”.

 

A lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was their financial secretary for almost 50 years, served on the council, sang in the choir and various other activities throughout her life.

 

Survivors include her children: Connie Sunderman (Mike) of Sioux City, Jay Chesley (Tammy) of Sioux Falls, SD, Roger Chesley (Linda) of Lenexa, KS; 6 grandchildren: Jill Jurgens (Brad), Tim Sunderman (Sarah), Jordan Chesley (Kelly), Jesse Chesley (Rachel), Krista Otto (Mike) and Corey Chesley; and grandma great to 8: Joey & Evelyn Jurgens, Kinnick & Kennedy Sunderman, Rowan & River Chesley, Anderson & Foster Chesley and baby Otto on the way.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Vernon and an infant son Paul.

 

Pallbearers will be her beloved grandchildren and their spouses.

 

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
