Mae I. Haltli

January 19, 1921 — December 24, 2016

Walter O. and Mae I. Haltli, both 95, of Sioux City, passed away respectively on Thursday, January 26, 2017, and Saturday, December 24, 2016, at local nursing facility.  Memorial services for the couple will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Westlawn Presbyterian Church, where visitation will begin after 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mae was born on January 19, 1921 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Walter and Isabelle (Hoag) Deits. She has lived most of her life in Sioux City, Iowa. Mae married Walter O. Haltli on October 18, 1947 in Dakota City, Nebraska. She was a proud homemaker, loved to bake, and made beautiful wedding cakes. Mae enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, and being outdoors in her yard. She and Walter loved to dance. Mae was a member of Westlawn Presbyterian Church and was the first woman to serve the church as an elder. She was active on the Session Board and an active member of Presbyterian Women.

Mae is survived by her husband Walter of Sioux City; daughters Virginia (Gene) Martin, Barbara Eggink, and Lynnette (Charles) Hoffman; sons Walter (Suzanne) Haltli, and Douglas Haltli Lee; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Marguerite Hernandez, Merle Deits, Earl Deits, and Harold Deits, son-in-law Nick Eggink, and grandson Steven Eggink.
