Grace Frances Miller

Grace Frances Miller, 95, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Avera Health Care in Cherokee, IA.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Father Daniel Rupp officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Grace was born May 2, 1921 in Hartington, Nebraska, the daughter of Alva and Clara Mae (Walton) Forinash. She graduated from Hartington High School. After graduation, Grace began working as a telephone operator for Hartington Telephone Company. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City.

Grace was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed all the activities that her children and grandchildren participated in. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, playing Canasta with her neighbor lady friends. Grace was also noted for her friendliness to others as she was often times the first person to arrive at a friend’s home with her “special” goodies when illness or death occurred in their families.

Grace was very involved with “Mother’s Club” at St. Joseph School in Sioux City, as well as St. Michaels in Leeds during the years that her 5 children attended those schools. She was often times the “Mother Chaperone” on out of town trips.

Survivors include her five children: Gary Miller and wife Ruth Ann of Sioux City, Kathy Hupke and husband Leo of Cherokee, IA, Tom Miller and wife Robin of Sioux City, Daniel Miller of Medicine Bow, WY, and Ronald Miller and wife Michelle of Simms, TX; 16 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Step-Mother Laura Forinash, a brother Hirschel Forinash, a sister Beulah Brodersen, a half-brother Donald Forinash, a granddaughter Mandi Miller, and great grandchildren Bailey Hupke and Gavin Miller.
