Lois was born in Sioux City on June 5, 1931 to Clarence and Ethel (Jasinsky) Wood. She attended East High School, graduating with the Class of 1949. On March 24, 1951, Lois married her high-school-sweetheart, Marlyn Hulst, and have celebrated 65 beautiful years together filled with love, trust, and compassion for each other and their families. Together, they built a foundation of love that will last forever as future generations are touched with the wisdom and values they have instilled in their children.
Lois and Marlyn built their home in Sioux City in a growing Morningside area neighborhood. During that time, Lois worked for the Postal Finance and celebrated a five-year anniversary with the company before starting a family of her own; consisting of two sons and two daughters. Gary Hulst was the first joy and was quickly followed by Julie. A few years later, Lois and Marlyn were pleasantly surprised by Becky, and finally by Bryan. Lois took great pride in her children, being their mother, and being a homemaker. She was a great role model for her kids to follow as they raised families of their own.
Lois was an active church member and held various positions within the Presbyterian Church over the years. She was kind and generous. She had the ability to see the good in people and find that the “cup” was in fact “half-full”. Lois was happy and caring often greeting visitors with a cup of coffee in hand and an invitation to sit at her table. Lois lived for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed as God has taken his earthly angel into heaven on Friday, December 9th.
Lois’s family members are husband Marlyn Hulst of Sioux City; son Gary and Barbara Hulst of Sioux City; daughter Julie and Bill Morgan of Merrill, IA; daughter Becky and Jeff Bainbridge of Sioux City; and son Bryan and Mindy Hulst of Tulsa, OK; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Waiting to welcome her in the Lord’s grace are her parents, brother Dale and his wife Evelyn Wood, sister Georgia and her husband Leonard Hatler, sister Betty and her husband Claud McMahon, nephews Alan Hatler and Jerry Hatler, niece Penny Hatler, grandson Neil Cline, father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Margeret Hulst, brother-in-law Al Hulst, and one nephew Keith Hulst; along with all of her many good friends who have already found their way into heaven.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at both hospitals for the care and respect given, with a special thanks to Dr. Halburt, Nurse Mary, and the rest of the medical staff.
