Wendall H. Hanson

Wendall Hanson, 89, of Newcastle, NE passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 12, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Newcastle, NE with Father Andrew Sohm officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle, with military rites conducted by the Newcastle American Legion Post 62. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M. with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the church. Additional visitation time with the family present will begin at 9:30 A.M. Monday, prior to the Funeral Service. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. 

Wendall was born on August 20, 1927 in Newcastle, NE, the son of Doyle and Carmen (Hull) Hanson. He entered the United States Navy on May 2, 1945 and served for two years. Upon returning he graduated from Newcastle High School in 1947.

Wendall married Delores Olander on April 13, 1949 in Newcastle. The couple settled in Newcastle, where they raised three children. Wendall was a rural mail carrier in Newcastle for 40 years.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post 62 for 71 years, Million Mile Club for his years of mail service, and the V.F.W. He enjoyed his “A Team” time at Lyles, was an avid race horse fan, and owned several horses over the years. Wendall enjoyed a trip to the Kentucky Derby in 2013 with his son and grandsons, and was also proud to experience an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years Delores Hanson of Newcastle, NE; daughters: Wendy (Bob) Meyer of Newcastle, NE, and Lori (Jim) Hans of Wynot, NE; a son Bob (Lisa) Hanson of Sergeant Bluff, IA; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister in law Lorraine (Donald) Kroger of Omaha, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Scott Kneifl, Jason Hans, Justin Hans, Mike Hanson, Blake Hanson, Kristen Dendinger, and Becky Hans.
