Ruth M. Hallbauer

Sioux City, IA – Ruth M. Hallbauer, 84, of Sioux City died Thursday, December 1, 2016, at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2016, at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.  Ruth Marie Hallbauer, daughter of Arthur and Hilda (Peter) Zumach, was born October 30, 1932 at Whittemore, IA.  Ruth grew up on a farm near Lone Rock, IA and attended school in Fenton, IA.  She graduated from Fenton High School.  Following high school, she went to nursing school in Sioux City to receive her Registered Nurse Degree.  She then worked in the Sioux City hospitals in different nursing roles. On November 9, 1957, Ruth was united in marriage to Charles Hallbauer in Lotts Creek, IA.  To this union two children were born: Michael and Karen.  The family made their home in Sioux City.  Ruth worked many years as an orthopedic surgery nurse for Northwest Iowa Orthopedics until her retirement in January of 1991. Ruth was a very active member at Faith Lutheran Church and a member of local nurses organizations.  In early years, she enjoyed bowling.  Above all, family was everything to Ruth and she would do anything for them. Ruth is survived by one son, Michael (Nancy) Hallbauer of Adel, IA; one daughter, Karen (Larry) Horsley of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren: Jessica Horsley, Sydney Hallbauer, Zachary Horsley, Dylan Hallbauer and Joshua Horsley; one great granddaughter, Prudence Horsley; three sisters: Arlene (Daniel) Schmidt of Kenyon, MN, Janice (Larry) Block of Anoka, MN and Carol Berkland of Reno, NV; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; two grandsons: Christopher and Blake Horsley; and one brother, Gerald Zumach.
