The Honorable Maurice S. Redmond, 75, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Bickford Cottage, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Cathedral of the Epiphany. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM with family present from 6 PM to 8 PM Friday, December 2, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. Maurice S., son of James and Rachel (Lamoureux) Redmond was born May 19, 1941, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Heelan High School. Maurice then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served from 1957 to 1961. He then attained an art degree from Briar Cliff and a Juris Doctor from Creighton Law School.
On January 4, 1969, Maurice was united in marriage with Mary Frances “Fran” Cain at Blessed Sacrament Church. A daughter Stephanie was born to this union. As a lawyer, Maurice worked in private practice before becoming county attorney and eventually Dakota County District Court Judge, retiring in 2005.
Maurice thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf, playing in two weekly leagues and regularly instructing youth on the fundamentals of the sport. He also actively supported many youth golf programs as well as Toys for Tots.
Maurice is survived by: his wife Fran Redmond of South Sioux City, Nebraska; a daughter Stephanie (Louis) Olberding of Lincoln, Nebraska; brothers Jim (Daphne) Redmond and Tom (Jan) Redmond, all of South Dakota; four sisters: Mary Ann (Frank) Audino of Sioux City; Kathleen (Jim) Riley of California; Susan Craig of California; and Patty Redmond of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law Michael & Helen Redmond, brother Rick Redmond, and infant brother James Arthur Redmond.
In lieu of flowers, Maurice’s family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Bickford Cottage.
