Joseph "Joe" E. Pinard

Sioux City – Joseph E. “Joe” Pinard, 82, of Sioux City formerly of Sergeant Bluff, IA died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at a local care center.

A memorial prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Rev. Karen Handke officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.  Private family burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Oto, IA with military honors by Henry V. McKenna American Legion Post 651.

Joseph Eugene Pinard, son of Ephrem and Rosa (Lavallee) Pinard, was born March 6, 1934 in Magog, Quebec Canada.  Joe grew up and attended school in Canada and had been a member of the Canadian Air Force.

After moving to the United States in 1957, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until his honorable discharge on January 10, 1961.

On February 15, 1958, Joe was united in marriage to Marie Handke in Oto, IA and to this union four children were born.  The family made their home in Sergeant Bluff, IA.  In his early years, Joe worked at Needham Packing Company in Sioux City.  He then worked at MidAmerican Energy as a meter repairman until his retirement.

Joe enjoyed hockey which included starting the Sioux City Eagles Hockey Team, coaching youth hockey and helping referee for the Sioux City Musketeers.  In addition, he enjoyed bowling and coaching girls softball.  Joe had been an active A.A. member and helped numerous people in the program.  Above all, he enjoyed his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by three daughters: Jackie (Ron) Kurth of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Lisa (Mark) Daniels of Wayne, NE and Carla (Curt) Logue of Allen, NE; a daughter-in-law, Rikki Pinard of Rosemount, MN; nine grandchildren: Troy (Emily) Pinard, Luke (Becky) Logue, Colton Kurth, Amanda Poland, Aaron (Tracy) Daniels, Cody Logue, Lana Kutz, Korisa Pinard and Carlee Kurth; nine great grandchildren: Alexis, Kade and Jayse Poland, Gracelyn and Tyler Daniels, Hope and Brennen Kutz, Adalay Scott and Blake Lauer; one brother, Ron (Rochelle) Pinard of Westland, MI; one sister, Christine (Louie) Turquette of Canada; one sister-in-law, Madeline Pinard of Canada; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie; son, Mike Pinard; grandson, Travis Pinard; one brother, Yvon Pinard and one sister, Cecile Brown.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be used to support youth hockey in Sioux City.

Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
