Doris Sherrill

Doris Sherrill, 76, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 26, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, where the family will be present from 6 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM. Doris Eileen, daughter of Curtis and Viola (Petersen) Newman, was born June 11, 1940, in Hinton, Iowa. She grew up in Hawarden, graduating from Hawarden High School in 1957.

On February 3, 1961, Doris was united in marriage with Berle Sherrill in Worthington, Minnesota. Two children were born to this union. The family made their home in Sioux City. Doris worked as a police dispatcher and switchboard operator before beginning working at the city treasurer’s office, retiring as Treasury Supervisor in 1995.

Doris was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, tending to her flowers, following the Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, Sioux City Explorers, and Kirk Hinrich.

Survivors include: a son Roger Sherrill of Sioux City; a daughter Dorene (Doug) Christiansen of Sioux City; six grandchildren: Janel, Amber and Megan Sherrill & Crystal, Colby and Lane Christiansen; a brother Ralph Newman; a sister Joan (Stan) Koch; a sister-in-law Charlene Newman; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Berle, a brother Merlyn Newman and a niece Lori (Koch) Hanna.

Pallbearers for the service will be: Crystal, Colby and Lane Christiansen; Janel, Amber and Megan Sherrill; Adam Lambert and Drew Bursell.
