Barbara Jones, 100, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at a local nursing home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Barbara E., daughter of Leslie and Eula (Evans) Porter, was born July 8, 1916, in Sioux City, Iowa. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1934. Barb then attended Morningside College for two years before she began work for Swift & Company where she worked as a supervisor. Barb then worked various jobs that would not interfere with her love of golf.

In the early 1940s, Barb was united in marriage with Frank Elliott. A son Michael was born to this union. Frank passed away in 1946. Shortly thereafter, Barb was blessed with a second marriage, this time with Eric “Gib” Jones. A daughter Leslie was born to this marriage.

For many years, Barb was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, and caring for her dogs, cats and pigeon. She thoroughly enjoyed the game of golf. Barb was a five-time champ at the Sioux City Boat Club where she shot a hole-in-one. She later played at the Dunes and was active with the Golden Girls through the age of 95.

Barb is survived by: a son Michael (Susie) Jones, M.D.; a daughter Leslie (Dennis) Franco; Three grandchildren: Bradley (Emily) Jones; Hilary Sanders and fiancé Don Most; and Eric (Natalie) Sanders; Six great-grandchildren: Liam and Elise Jones & Isabel, Emi, Curren and Ava Sanders. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a brother Maynard Porter, M.D., and a sister Marianna Brandes.
