Joy O. Washington, 94, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at a local care center.
Services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Friday, November 25, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery.
Joy was born July 21, 1922 in Spirit River, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Harry J. and Mildred Ann (Peever) Staggers. The family moved to Wisconsin where she received her education. Joy married Reverend Alex T. Washington on May 12, 1943 in St. Paul, MN. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2012.
Joy was a true Pastor’s wife, very active in every Church Alex was called to, and a constant companion to her husband. She would joke that when a Church hired Alex, they got a 2 for 1 deal. She was active in the P.E.O. Illinois Chapter, Mystic Study Club, and the United Methodist Church. Joy and Alex loved to play golf together.
Joy was survived by many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister Shirley Staggers.
