James L. Flinn

April 8, 1929 — November 10, 2016

James L. “Jim” Flinn, 87, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at Calvary Episcopal Church with Rev. Stacey Gerhart officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be the hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Jim was born April 8, 1929 in St. Paul, MN the son of Paul A. and Ruth Leininger Flinn.

In November of 1952 he married Alexandra Cullum in St. Paul. Together they raised two children, Tom and Beth. Alix died January 9, 1983 in Sioux City. Jim later married Kathryn (Manderscheid) Rowe on April 14, 1984.

Jim’s career as a livestock buyer for Swift & Co. started in St. Paul, MN, and later took him to St. Louis, MO, Fargo, ND and Sioux City.

He retired in 1987 to his dream, a lake home. In his early retirement years, Jim was the program director for the Boys and Girls Club in Detroit Lakes, MN. While in Sioux City he was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church. Jim was passionate about gardening and fishing. Most of all he loved his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; son, Tom Flinn (and partner, Debbie Larson) of Belleville, IL; daughter, Beth Flinn of San Diego, CA; 5 step-children, Betsy (Mark) Petersen of Dickinson, TX, Kathie (Greg) Guggenmos of Sioux City, Nick (Elayne) Rowe of Newcastle, WY, Lou (Brian) Bateman of Fallbrook, CA and Teresa (Jim) Helland of Sioux Falls, SD; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Paul, and a brother, Thomas.
