SIOUX CITY | Gerald K. Hochwender, 88, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 in Omaha, NE.
A memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at the Cathedral of The Epiphany with Rev. Brent Lingle officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Aneta, ND. Jerry was born Aug. 14, 1928 in Newell, IA. He was the son of George K. and Eleanor M. (Knowles) Hochwender. He moved with his family to San Diego, CA in 1934.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 until 1952 during the Korean Conflict. On Aug. 10, 1950 he married Veronica L. Carr in San Diego. She passed away on September 5, 1966 in Sioux City.
Jerry moved to Kingsley, IA in 1962 and to Sioux City in 1967. He married Lucille S. Kueber on January 8, 1967 in Sioux City. She passed away on July 22, 2014 in Sioux City. Jerry and Lucille owned and operated St. Ann’s Home for 20 years and retired in 1996.
He was a member of the Cathedral of The Epiphany where he was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a past Grand Knight. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Survivors include his children, Dan Hochwender (Ruben Rodriguez) of Valley Center, CA, Carla (Craig) Rickert of Chester, SD, Kathleen (Gene) Dodd of Lakewood, CO, Mary (Scott) Nachreiner of Canon City, CO, Darin Hochwender and Jason (Lynn) Hochwender both of Omaha, NE; 15 grandchildren, Heather (Ann), Ryan (Maggie), Nathan, Nolan, Sophie, Brandon, Pauly, Katie, Julia, Caitlin, Ian, Quinn, Aidan, Dawson and Callum; and 2 great grandsons, Berron and Bradford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; son, Sean; brothers Larry and Gene; and an infant daughter.
