Karen R. Molstad

   Karen Rae Molstad, 79, of Sioux City passed away on Monday, November 7th, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux City, IA. Reverend R. Paul Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today, ,Friday, November 11th, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. all at the church.    Karen was born June 13th, 1938 in Sioux City, IA; she was the daughter of Emery and Edna (Scherner) Runge. A Sioux City native, Karen graduated from Central High School in 1956 where she was head majorette in the Central High School Band and spent her summers as a life guard. She then attended the University of South Dakota and achieved a degree in Education in 1959. She was an active member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and enjoyed performing in Strollers, an annual vaudeville variety show. Karen married the love of her life, Bob Molstad, on August 16, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. She taught girls physical education for several years in the South Sioux City, NE. Karen was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a devoted member of the class of ‘56 and enjoyed the opportunity to teach ball room and tap dancing. Her true passion and love was her family and she enjoyed preserving her families’ heritage through geneology.
   Survivors include 3 children: Robert L. “Chip” Molstad, II of Sioux City, William “Will” Fjord Molstad and his wife Erin of St. Louis, MO, Diane Molstad of Sioux City; 2 sister-in-laws: Jane Ann Ringold of Peavy Lake, MN and Karen Lee Riley and her husband David of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren: Rob, Ryan, Ethan, Mason, Landon, Joe, Abby and Emma Molstad, 2 great grandchildren: Landen James and Wesley Robert Molstad.
