Mabel E. Solomon, 100 of Sioux City and formerly of Merrill, IA passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at a local care facility after a short illness.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday at the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, IA. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Sunday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Mabel was born January 26, 1916 in Wagner, SD; she was the daughter of Gurden and Lillian (Gumm) Baker. Mabel grew up in the Plymouth County area. She married Charles L. Solomon February 21, 1933 in Olivet, SD. He died September 2, 1984 in Sioux City.
Mabel worked at the Liberty Consolidated High School, for Kraft Foods in Sioux City and then retired from Chesterman Bottling Company.
She enjoyed dancing, camping, fishing, playing cards, gardening, cooking and traveling.
Survivors include her children: Richard “Bob” Solomon and his wife Darlene of Sioux City, Donald Solomon and his wife Olean of Marmaduke, AR, Darlene Juzek-Knapp and her husband Tom of Merrill, IA, 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister: Marie Loker of Sioux City. Mabel is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends as well as Darwin Solomon and his wife Emaline who was like a son to Mabel.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 sister, 5 brothers, granddaughters: Diane and Amy, her son in law: Marvin Juzek, 2 daughters in law: Marge and Ethel and a great grandson: Corey Gatts.
