South Sioux City, NE – Leslie “Les” H. Irwin, 81, of South Sioux City, NE formerly of Sioux City, IA died Monday, October 31, 2016, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City with Pastor Kevin Miller of First Evangelical Free Church officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Leslie Harland Irwin, son of Harry and Marian (Minscer) Irwin, was born August 16, 1935, at Sioux City, IA. He grew up and attended school in Jefferson, SD.
On August 31, 1957, Leslie was united in marriage to Ruth E. Barnacle in Sioux City, IA. To this union two sons were born: Kirk and Kevin. The family made their home in Jefferson until the early 1960’s when they moved to Sioux City. Les worked for Terminal Grain in Sioux City then owned and operated Les’s Fina Service Station in Riverside. In the late 1970’s, he owned the Fina Station in South Sioux City then went to work as a mechanic at the Ford garage in Sioux City until retiring in 1998. In his retirement years, Les worked part-time in maintenance at Riverside Car Wash. In 2010, Les and Ruth moved to South Sioux City.
Les was a member of First Evangelical Free Church in Sioux City. He was an avid race car fan, enjoyed every mechanical challenge and took great pride in taking care of his yard. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Les is survived by two sons: Kirk (Suellen) Irwin of Bondurant, IA and Kevin (Karen) Irwin of Sioux City, IA; three grandchildren: Amber (Kory) Love of South Sioux City, NE, Jason Irwin of Sioux City, IA and Jena (Luke) Lusk of Floyd, IA; three step grandchildren: Kevin (Wanita) Corn of Altoona, IA, David (Stephine) Corn of Papillion, NE and Daniel Corn of Gainesville, FL; five great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Tom Nulty of Bentonville, AR; two sisters-in-law: Beverly Montagne of Sioux City, IA and Betty Jackson of California; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth on July 27, 2014; and seven siblings: Pauline Mahan, Mary Lou Christenson, Phyllis Nulty, Roger Irwin, Duane Irwin, Willard Irwin and Harry Irwin.
