Arne R. Sorensen, 93, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Friday Oct. 28, 2016. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1st Christian Church in Sioux City at 10 a.m. Wednesday November 2, 2016. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel has assisted with arrangements.
Arne was born near Neligh, Nebraska on May 9, 1923 to Carl and Caroline (Jensen) Sorensen. He exhibited early musical talent as a pianist. He continued studying, performing and teaching throughout his life. Arne studied with many notable musicians including Otto Voget, Maurice Duhamel, Rudolph Ganz and Leon Fletcher. As a teacher, Arne touched the lives of numerous students in Nebraska and Iowa, many of whom went on to professional musical careers. During summers, Arne taught students of Beth Miller Harrod in Lincoln NE. Arne’s own performances include both solo and collaborative, including those at Witherspoon Concert Hall in Omaha NE. He also was an accomplished organist who served many area churches. Highlights for Arne included time spent with his students as well as attending events at Rocky Ridge Music Center, Marlboro and Ravinia Festivals.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Tassemeyer.
