Joseph Timmins (Tim) Krapfl, 76, of Iowa City, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday Oct. 25, 2016, of Parkinson’s Disease at his home with family.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, at 12:30, Wednesday. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s cemetery, Ellendale, with military rites. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:30 till 8:00 at Sacred Heart Church with family present from 6 to 8. Catholic Daughters will say the rosary at the church at 4:30. A parish vigil service will begin at 7:00.
Tim was born November 10th, 1939, to Ambrose and Rose (Timmins) Krapfl. He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1957, and attended the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. He served 2 years in the army. He was a conductor on the Union Pacific Railroad for over 35 years. He married Margaret (Margee) Ream on February 3, 1968, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ellendale. He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Iowa City, and long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City.
Tim loved riding his bicycle and completed 3 RAGBRAIs after his retirement. He was a member of the Elk Point Golf Club for many years before his illness forced him to give it up. He liked attending Heelan football games and watching most any sports. He could talk to anyone and enjoyed entertaining neighbors in his driveway. He also was an avid reader and knowledgeable on WWII. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #112 in Sioux City, where he enjoyed playing racquetball. First and foremost was his love of family.
Survivors include his wife, Margee, daughter, Katy Krapfl (Jim Viner),Iowa City, and son Matt Krapfl, Portland, OR; grandchildren, Sam Krapfl, Nora Krapfl, and Max Krapfl Viner; brother, John (Marlana) Krapfl, sister-in-law, Vae Ream, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosemary Krapfl, and brother-in-law, Gerald Ream.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research or Iowa City Hospice.
