SIOUX CITY | Mary A. Nyhus, 87, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016 at her home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with an honor guard by St. Joseph Nurses Alumni. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service and rosary at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be offered online at www.meyerbroschapels. Mary was born Nov. 24, 1928 in Carroll, IA. She was the daughter of George and Mary (Mueller) Janning. Mary came to Sioux City in 1946 to attend St. Joseph School of Nursing. She graduated in 1949. On January 12, 1952 she married Eugene T. Nyhus in Fonda, IA. Together they raised five children. Eugene died Nov. 7, 1993 in Sioux City. Mary worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and Marian Health Center and retired in 1983 at the age of 55. She was a longtime active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of St. Joseph Nurses Alumni Association and Marian Health Center Auxiliary. Mary was a good person who enjoyed completing projects and was always there for her family in any way they needed. Survivors include her children Mary Ann Nyhus, Steve Nyhus, Diane (Dan) Glasson, Thomas (Gladys) Nyhus and Nancy (Jerry) Green all of Sioux City; 3 grandchildren, Dan Glasson, Deborah Glasson, and Reis Green; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Nacke; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 5 brothers and 1 sister. A special thanks to Hospice of Siouxland.
