Clara A. Winn, 94 of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Stoney Brook Suites Assisted Living.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at The Church of the Nativity of Jesus Christ in Sioux City with Father Steven McLoud as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salix, Iowa. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 27th at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be offered to the A.L.S. Foundation in honor of Rita and Larry.
Clara was born on April 1, 1922 in Hartington, Nebraska to Andrew and Alta (Gallagher) Lux. She grew upon a farm near Hartington. Clara met Christopher J. Koch and married him on September 7, 1943. They farmed south west of New Castle, Nebraska from 1943 until 1957. They moved to a farm near Sergeant Bluff, Iowa where they farmed until his death on January 3, 1967. Clara met Jerome W. Winn and married him on February 7, 1969. He passed away on May 6, 1989, after which Clara cared for 11 children on the farm. She loved to garden, can, and sew clothes for the family.
Survivors include her daughter Madonna Culver (Robert) of Sioux City, Iowa; sons Mark Koch (Janie) of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Paul Koch (Lynne) of Unionville, Missouri, Larry Koch of Sioux City, Iowa, Michael Koch (Jayne) of Sioux City, Iowa, and Patrick Koch (Tammy) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; daughter Rose Palsgaaro (Eric) of Morgan Hill, California; and son-in-law James Staber (Chris) of South Sioux City, Nebraska. Also left to remember Clara are her step-children Mary Helen Hanlon (Mike) of Springfield, Ohio, Tony Jones (Marsha) of Omaha, Nebraska, Delores Nemceff (Jack) of California, Kathyrn Vanoss (Dennis) of Minnesota, Monica Bradley (Dick) of Arizona, Marian Gibbons (Steve) of Des Moines, Iowa, Patricia Kubik (Dan) of Clutier, Iowa, and Duane Winn (Donita) Lancaster, California; sister Mary Stewart (Marlyn) of Hubbard, Nebraska; brother Darrell Lux (Carol) of Salix, Iowa; sister-in-laws Margie Lux of Coleridge, Nebraska and Dorothy Lux of Dakota City, Nebraska; 40 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, son Martin Koch, daughter Rita Staber, granddaughter Shannon Koch, grandson Kevin Culver, daughter-in-law Geri Koch, two step-sons Patrick Winn and Mark Kubik, two brothers Lawerence Lux and Edmund Lux, sister-in-law Joann Lux, and son-in-law Dick Bradley.
