James A. Conlon

April 17, 1933 — October 22, 2016

James A. Conlon, 83 of Sergeant Bluff, IA passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at his residence after a long illness surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Jim was born April 17, 1933 in Sioux City; he was the son of Claude and Lucille (Winklebauer) Conlon. Jim grew up in Sioux City, he attended Cathedral Grade School, Trinity High School and then Heelan High School where he played baseball.

Jim married Mary Lee Donahue September 7, 1950 in Sioux City.

In 1950, Jim began working for the Chicago – Milwaukee - St. Paul – Pacific Railroad where he worked for 11 years. He then worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 27 years, retiring in May of 1989.

Jim was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid fan of Heelan High School, Notre Dame and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Conlon of Sergeant Bluff; 6 children: Joe Conlon and his wife Judy, Lin Slump, Mike Conlon, Patrick Conlon, Susan Moskop and her husband Clark, and Dan Conlon, 4 grandchildren: Kari D’Ottavio, John Slump, Brooke Welker and her husband Rocky, Cole Conlon, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
