Florence P. Cottington

Florence P. (Prescott) Cottington, 94 of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at  Premier Estates Assisted Living in Onawa, IA.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 A.M. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Rev. Dennis Burns will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:30 AM. Saturday at funeral home.

Florence was born May 11, 1922 in Sioux City; she was the daughter of George and Edna (Brown) Breckner. Florence moved to South Sioux City as a small child and graduated from South Sioux City High School and then from NBT Business College.

She married Robert Prescott November 2, 1940 in Sioux City, he passed away on July 31, 1994. Florence married Richard Cottington May 17, 1997 and he passed away on February 15, 2006.

Florence was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and served on the Board of Deacons. She was a past member of Sioux City Charter Chapter of American Business Women her she held all offices and was chosen “Women of the Year”. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star # 502 for over 50 years and served on the board for “Rainbow Girls”.

Florence and her husband Robert were co-owners of Prescott Plumbing & Heating Co. where she was a bookkeeper for 25 years. After retirement, she was a food demonstrator in many grocery stores.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Strait and her husband Norman of Ute, IA; a daughter in law: Marilyn Prescott of Sioux City; 2 grandchildren: Steve Prescott and Stacy Henrichsen and her husband Jon; a granddaughter in law: Lori Prescott; 6 great grandchildren: Kelsey, Connor and Nicole Prescott, Parker, Preston and Collin Henrichsen; 3 step children: Linda Killinger and her husband Kerry, Lori Cliff and her husband Ron,  and Randy Cottington; 2 step grandchildren: Matt Miller and Ben Cottington.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands Robert Prescott and Richard Cottington, a son Robert G. Prescott, a sister Irene Woodley and a grandson Scott Prescott.

A memorial will be established in Florence’s name.
