Sioux City, IA – Jeanette Elaine Martin, 80, of Sioux City, IA died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City with Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Jeanette Elaine, the daughter of James H. and Julia Amanda (Clausen) Dicus, was born August 2, 1936 at Anthon, IA. She was baptized in the Methodist Faith. Jeanette was raised and educated in Sioux City.
On October 27, 1951, Jeanette was united in marriage to Richard A. Martin at Elk Point, SD. They made their home in Azusa, CA for twenty-eight years and returned to Sioux City in 1982. Jeanette worked for Avon Products in Pasadena, CA for twenty-two years.
Jeanette was very active in the Parent Teachers Association and held several offices from 1959 to 1965 for the Azusa California School District. She also had been a Girl Scouts and Brownie Troup Leader. Jeanette was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #2810 in Azusa. Through the club, she helped organize a teen club that raised money for different organizations. Her work at the club was recognized by Jimmy Durante who personally wrote a thank you letter to her for working with the teen club and donating to the Cripple Children’s Fund.
Jeanette enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino and being on the computer especially Facebook. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Jeanette is survived by her husband, Richard A. Martin of Sioux City; one son, Delbert Martin of Sioux City; two daughters: Deborah J. Krueck of Huntington Beach, CA and Deanna Douglas and husband Terry of Sioux City; grandchildren: James Martin and wife Tracy, Jason Martin and fiancé Holly, Christopher Douglas and wife Katie all of Sioux City, Joshua Douglas and wife Amy of Cherokee, IA, Erich Krueck and wife Melissa of Portland, OR, Barbara Reinmiller and husband Cory of Irvine, CA; seven great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Charlene Rush of Sioux City; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Chris Martin; eight brothers: James, Dean, Dale, Jerry (Schmidt), George, Ardell, Ben and Charles Dicus; and one sister, Bonner Draper.
