Gerold David Mathewson

Gerold David Mathewson, 80 of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Primghar Rehab & Care Center after a brief illness.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 12, 2016 at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:-00 P.M. Sunday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. 

Gerold was born November 16, 1935 in Sioux City; he was the son of Myron and Jean (Templeman) Mathewson. Gerold grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School and then from Iowa State University. He served in the Naval Reserves before being united in marriage to Luella Carlson. Luella passed away in 1988.

Gerold was an artist and poet and wrote his own book of poetry. He also enjoyed fishing.

Gerold is survived by his son Jay Mathewson and his fiancé Jeaneen of Akron, IA; 7 grandchildren: Nicole, Kayla, Courtney, Justin, Brenden, Cameron and Marinda; 1 great grandson: Blaze; his brother: Denny Mathewson and his wife Kathy of Sioux City; his sister: Judy Severson and her husband Don of Overland Park, KS.

Gerold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Luella and a sister Darla.
