South Sioux City, NE – Rita D. Taylor, 90, of South Sioux City, NE entered into eternal life September 7, 2016.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father Brent Lingle, celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. by Catholic Daughters Of The Americas Court 2055 and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Rita, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Anderst) Slowey, was born October 3, 1925 at Janousek, SD. Rita grew up in Sioux City, IA and graduated from East High. Following high school, she attended college and received her nursing degree.
On November 27, 1954, Rita was united in marriage to Alvin L. Taylor. To this union five children were born. The family made their home in Sioux City. Rita started her career as a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sioux City. She later became a nursing instructor at St. Joe School of Nursing and finished her career at Marian Health Center. Alvin died in October of 1981.
On November 27, 1999, Rita married Daniel P, Tighe at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They made their home in South Sioux City. Daniel passed away September of 2006.
Rita enjoyed gardening, sewing and motorcycle rides. Over the years, she was very active in the Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Queen of Peace.
Rita is survived by three sons: Kelly Taylor of South Sioux City; Kim (Eileen) Taylor of Hinton, IA and Kirk Taylor of Sioux City; two daughters: Karen (Daryl) Brown of Sioux City and Kathy (Daniel) Rasmussen of Springdale; ten grandchildren: Brittany (Allen) Hirschauer, William (Heather) Taylor, Katrina (Shane Rooney) Taylor, Kandace (Michael) Burton, Jonathon (Allison) Brown, Alicia (Jonathan) Smith, Winston and Lincoln Rasmussen, Ashley Harmes, and Jesse (Amber) Taylor; sixteen great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Slowey, Jr. of Brandon, FL; one sister, Margaret Lamkin of Sioux City; one sister-in-law, Sharon Slowey of Tampa, FL; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Alvin Taylor and Daniel Tighe; one brother, Donald Slowey and one brother-in-law, Ed Lamkin.
