Sandra L. Topf

August 2, 1950 — September 6, 2016

Sioux City, IA - Sandy Lee Topf, 66, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, September 6th at a local hospital. Although she fought pneumonia for more than a week, she died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at 4:00 pm.

Abiding by her wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held.  Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City is in charge of arrangements.

Sandy was a proud resident of Sioux City, Iowa where she lived her entire life. She was born on August 2nd, 1950 into the Herrick family, and she attended East High School. Sandy was an excellent student who loved to learn about the world and the people around her—a disposition she carried with her into her final days.

After high school, Sandy was married twice and had four children, all of whom she dedicated her life to. She also loved God and her work. Until Sandy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1994, she frequently attended Mt. Zion Baptist church. In the 1980s Sandy worked at Postal Finance as an administrative assistant, and then she worked at Mercy Hospital for 15 years as an employment administrator.

Other than her children, God and her work, Sandy also loved to ice skate and play the piano. She could hear just about any song on the radio and play it by ear, much to the amazement of her children.

Because of her multiple sclerosis, Sandy spent her final two decades under nursing home care, the last of which was Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center, where she was surrounded by many loving and compassionate nurses.

Sandy is survived by her two sisters, Chris Banys of Sioux City and Sheryl Rollene of Humboldt, and her four children and children-in-law: Missy O’Connell-Ackerman and her husband Kory Ackerman of Sioux City; Tod O’Connell of Golden, Colorado; Nick Topf and his wife Megan Topf of Sioux City; and Corey Topf and his wife Deborah Muhlbauer who live in Lima, Peru. She is also survived by her two adorable grandchildren Norah Topf and Alice Topf of Sioux City.

Sandy is preceded in death by her mother Alice Joyce Herrick and her father Dwight Eugene Herrick.
