Steve Cogdill, 75, of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016, at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM, with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM, on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. The Garrigan Assembly Honor Guard will be present at 6:00 PM with a rosary at 6:30 PM, a vigil service at 7:00 PM followed by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus chalice service. Stephen Oliver, son of Melvin and Vera (Adams) Cogdill, was born August 14, 1941, in Onawa, Iowa. He grew up in Onawa. Following his schooling, Steve served with the U.S. Army from August of 1958 to May of 1961, and was primarily stationed in Germany.
On February 17, 1962, Steve was united in marriage with Barbara Johnson, in Lincoln, Nebraska. The family first made their home in Lincoln before settling in Sioux City. Steve worked at Smurfit-Stone for 34 years, retiring as Supervisor in 2000.
Steve was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and participated in the Men’s Club. He was also a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus and the Noon Lion’s Club.
Steve is survived by his wife Barbara Cogdill of Sioux City; a daughter Judith (Derek) Kopacz of Chicago, IL; two sons Stephen Cogdill and Christopher Cogdill, both of Sioux City; ten grandchildren: Kourtney Kellen, Kyler Kopacz, Kaden Kopacz, Kamryn Kopacz, Kaleb Kopacz, Aidan Honke, Sarah Ann Price, Anne Johnson. Josh Johnson and Zachary Johnson; Siblings: Marlene Howard, Judy Smith, Glenn Cogdill and Linda (Charles) Miller; and a brother-in-law Kenneth Harder.
He was preceded in death by his parents: brothers Ray Cogdill and Robert (Joyce) Cogdill; sisters Sandy Zolaco and Reva Harder; and a brother-in-law Mark Smith.
