SIOUX CITY, IA | Margaret Jeanette Johnson, 81, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Gary Harris officiating. Burial will be at the Big Springs Cemetery in Big Springs, So. Dakota. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Margaret was born Jan. 1, 1935 in Lincoln, Neb. She was the daughter of Frank “F.C.” and Florence J. Eckert. Her family moved to Sioux City when she was a young child. Margaret graduated from Central High School in 1952.
On September 18, 1952 she married Thomas George Johnson. Together they raised six children. Thomas passed away June 10, 1993.
Margaret was a hostess at the Sioux City Country Club for 37 years. Prior to that, she worked for Younkers Dept. Store then at the Sioux City Airport restaurant.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandkids. She would enjoy doing whatever they asked just to have the opportunity to spend more time with them.
Survivors include her children, Danny (Lana) Johnson of Sioux City, Randy (Susan) Johnson of Hackensack, Minn., Ricky Johnson of Kingsley, IA, Tommy Johnson of Forest Lake, Minn., Kimmy Coellner of Sioux City and Buffy LaBeau of Forest Lake, Minn.; 2 sisters, Kathy Wickey of Sioux City and Carolyn Lekan of Wichita, KS; 10 grandchildren, Melinda, Adam, Ashley, Andrew, Erin, Donele, Joe, Amber, Elizabeth and Jacob; 9 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Frank “Kenny” Eckert.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Evans, LaDamien Coellner, Myles Pence, Adam Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Jacob LaBeau.
