Larry Donald Kovarna, 71 of Hinton, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 31, 2016 at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church rural Hinton, IA. Rev. Steven Stoll will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Larry was born December 22, 1944 in Sioux City, IA; he was the son of Donald and Eileen (Montagne) Kovarna. Larry grew up in the Hinton area and graduated from Hinton High School. He served in the 185th Air Guard during the Vietnam Conflict.
Larry married Norma Hageman November 18, 1966 in Hinton and he has farmed in the Hinton area all of his life.
Larry was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and he loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and bowling and golfing in his early years.
Survivors include his wife Norma of Hinton; 3 children: Tom Kovarna of Merrill, IA, Andy Kovarna (Alicia) of Hinton, IA, and Darcy Sammelson of Vermillion, SD; 3 grandchildren: Ashley Kovarna of Sioux Falls, SD, James and Kali Kovarna of Hinton, IA; his sister: Linda Mitchell (Dale) of Lawton, IA; his brother: Rick Kovarna (Mary) of Hinton, IA.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a son Tim Kovarna and a son in law Greg Sammelson.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Larry’s name.
