Dorothy Emily Hutchinson, 88 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at a local care facility after a 2 year illness.
 
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mr. Neil Peck, C.L.S. will officiate. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. all at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com
 
Dorothy was born February 8, 1928 in Huntington Cheshire, Chester, England; she was the daughter of Robert and Emily (Law) Williamson. Dorothy was her town’s “Rose Queen” in 1943. She had nurse’s training at the local hospital at the age of 16.
 
Dorothy was united in marriage on August 4, 1945 to Vondis “Bob” Hutchinson from Fort Dodge, IA. They met while Bob was serving in the U.S. Army during WW II. To this union 6 children were born, Pamela, Patricia, Paula, Priscilla, Robert and Susan.
 
The family lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa until 1960. They moved to Mapleton, IA where Vondis and Dorothy owned a furniture store until they moved to Sioux City in 1965. Dorothy worked at Mastercraft Cleaners until 1967. She was also employed at the Elbon Club, Mail House and Gloria’s Daily Grind Coffee Shop. Dorothy then was employed at St. Joseph Hospital as a Diet-Aide. The hospital moved to 6th & Jones St. where Dorothy became the head of the Dietary Department. She retired from Mercy Medical Center in 1995, becoming a homemaker until her death.
 
Dorothy was a member of the Senior Swim Group at the YWCA, a member of Chapter CG T.T.T. Society, various Bowling Leagues at Bowl Mor and Plaza Lanes, and a patron of the Sioux City Symphony at the Orpheum Theater and Morningside College.
 
Survivor included her children: Pamela Newman (Gary) of Sioux City, Patricia Rookstool of Conway, SC, Paula Lamoureaux of Bullhead City, AZ, Priscilla Chesher (Robert) of Sioux City, Robert Hutchinson (Cheryl) of Sioux City; a son in law: Doug Champlain; her brother: Harold Williamson (Joan) of Nottingham, England, nieces: Jill (Malcom) of Sweden and Susan of Nottingham, England; 12 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
 
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in January of 1996; her daughter Susan Champlain in August of 1978, a grandson Ken Theobald; a great grandson Coby Theobald; a great granddaughter Autumn Chesher, sons in law: George Rookstool and Ray Lamoureaux; mother and father in law: Alta and Charles Hutchinson; sisters in law: Neva Porter, Lyla Will, Delpha Hammond, Evelyn Breno, Emma Broad and Mabel Hutchinson; brothers in law: Max Hutchinson, George Hutchinson, John Porter, Warren Will, Bill Hammond, Angelo Breno and John Broad.
 
The family would like to thank the staffs at Bickford Cottage and Touchstone Healthcare Community for the excellent care they gave to Dorothy.
