Robert "Bob" Howard

   Robert “Bob” Mark Howard, 78 of Westfield, IA passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016 in Sioux City.

   Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.  Reverend Steve Jewett will officiate. Visitation at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel will be on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with prayer service at 7 pm.

   Bob was born May 19, 1938 in Sioux City; he was the son of Ritchie and Mary (Stewart) Howard. Bob grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1956. He lettered in football, basketball and track. Bob joined the Navy Reserves while in High School; he served actively in the U.S. Navy from September of 1956 until being honorably discharged in January of 1959. He married Dollie D. Delfs December 26, 1959 at the former Concordia Lutheran Church. They celebrated 56 ½ years of marriage.

   Bob worked for Pioneer Iron and Needham Packing before working at the Greyhound Bus Depot for 22 years. While working at Greyhound, Bob also worked part time at Miles Inn. In December of 1996, he purchased Miles Inn. He and Dollie owned and operated Miles Inn until retiring in 2005.

   Bob had a lifelong passion for horses and enjoyed taking his kids to rodeos they participated in. He also enjoyed camping, boating, trail riding and framing puzzles. Most of all, Bob loved his family especially his grandchildren who lovingly called him "Bumpa".

   Survivors include his wife Dollie of Westfield, IA; 5 children: Randy Howard of Salix, Bobby Howard of Salix, Rhonda (Jeff) Dahl of Westfield, Ritchie (Sarah Welch) Howard of Sioux City, Russ (Denelle) Howard of Alton; his brother: Ronnie (Julie) Howard of Sioux City; a sister in law: Barbara Howard of Richardson, TX; 5 grandchildren: Jaci (Corey) Erickson and Shannon Dahl, Crysta Howard Barney, Emmett and Elwyn Howard.

   Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dr. Virgil Howard, his father in law William C. Delfs and his mother in law Maxine Delfs Walters; a brother in law William E. Delfs and a niece Sharee Delfs.
