Peggy June Skelton

March 14, 1929 — July 25, 2016

   Sioux City, IA – Peggy June Skelton, 87, of Sioux City, IA died Monday, July 25, 2016, at her residence.

   A celebration of life service will be 7 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016, at Whitfield United Methodist Church in Sioux City with Rev. Liz Tucker officiating.  Private family burial of the cremains will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

   Peggy, the daughter of Lewis Arthur and Eva Armenta (Forsberg) Meyers, was born March 14, 1929, at Sioux City, IA.  She grew up in Sioux City and attended Central High School.

   On August 5, 1945, Peggy was united in marriage to Richard Jessie Skelton in Council Bluffs, IA and to this union eight children were born.  The family made their home in Sioux City.  Peggy worked at Macs Speedy Auto Wash for 18 years and then became the first working woman engineer for the Sioux City Community Schools.

   After retiring in 1995, Peggy enjoyed traveling and camping.  She was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, South Sioux City Eagles, the Custodial Union, and Siouxland Center for Active Generations.  Above all, family was very important to Peggy and she continually stressed the importance of education to each family member.

   Peggy is survived by seven children: Richard (Sandy) Skelton of Beaumont, TX, Paul (Mary) Skelton of Sioux City, IA, Dennis (Sandy) Skelton of Sioux Falls, SD, Ethel (Donnie) Lea of San Antonio, TX, Wayne (Pat) Skelton of San Antonio, TX, Cindy Hofmeister (Harold Heiden) of Sioux City, IA and Robin (Orville) Ford of Sioux City, IA; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Skelton of Onawa, IA; twenty-eight grandchildren; sixty-four great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and one sister, Marylou Hartson of Riverside, CA.

   Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard on October 20, 1979; one son, Robert Skelton; three brothers: Sylvester Meyers, Charles Meyers and Donald Meyers; and one sister, Ethel Bruce.

   The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Michael Jung, Dr. Irwin, Sunrise Manor, Prairie Estates, Pleasant View Care Center and Hospice for all their wonderful care.
