Richard William Lind

Richard William Lind, 86, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his home in Morningside.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Graceland Park Cemetery with Deacon Patricia Roberts officiating. Informal attire please. 

Richard was born October 14, 1929 in Colon, Panama. He was a military brat, the second son of a career U.S. Army warrant officer and his British-born wife.

After graduating early from Treadwell High School in Memphis, TN, Richard joined the U.S. Army in 1946 at the age of seventeen and served for three years before trying his hand at college life for a year at Memphis State College. He missed the military so he joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 where he served for four years before finally deciding that the U.S. Air Force was a better fit for a family man. He gave the U.S. Air Force 20 years before finally retiring in 1974.

He married Kathryn Jeanette Crecelius in 1950. To this union three children were born…Michael in 1953, Patricia in 1955 and Jessie in 1961. As part of Richard’s military career, the family lived in several places, Virgina, Florida, Tennessee, California, Hawaii, Ohio, and finally the U.S. Canal Zone in Panama.

Richard loved his family and went to great lengths to make sure they were taken care of. He also was fascinated by computers and put his to good use documenting the family’s history, financial records, and communicating with old friends far and wide. He even met his second wife online!

Richard is survived by his second wife Lou Ann of Sioux City, his daughter Patricia of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and his son Michael of Littlerock, CA.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Kathryn (November 2011), daughter Jessie (June 2014), parents Ellis R. and Jessie (Long) Lind, brother Robert Lind, and sister Elizabeth Lind.
