Kenneth L. Byrne

March 16, 1929 — July 5, 2016

Sioux City, IA | Kenneth L. Byrne, 87, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Westwood Nursing & Rehab Center.
 
Services will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Pastor Brian Howe officiating. A Masonic service will follow the memorial service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
 
Ken was born March 16, 1929 in Sioux City the son of Donald J. and Martha I. (Davenport) Byrne. He graduated from Central High School in 1947. Ken served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Maury where he worked as an electrician and projectionist.
 
On Feb. 28, 1952 he married Mary E. Lucart in Sioux City. Together they raised eight daughters. Ken worked at Thompson Electric for 39 years and retired in 1991. Mary passed away on March 14, 2013 in Sioux City.
 
Ken was a member of Triangle Lodge #643 where he served as past master of the grand lodge and worthy patron. For many years, he was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. He was a lifelong member of the IBEW Local 231.
 
Ken loved the sport of boxing. He was a light weight boxer while in the Navy. He enjoyed listening to music and audio books. Ken liked to argue for argument sake.
 
Survivors include his 8 daughters, Vicki (Chuck) Lee of Phoenix, AZ, Michele Byrne of Sioux City, Kim (George L.) Davis of Shreveport, LA, Cheryl (Bill) Gray of Ida Grove, IA, Linda (George W.) Davis, Elizabeth (Harold) Schoepfer, Kristina Byrne, and Kendra (Brian) Howe all of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Katherine Byrne of Sioux City; 32 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, great-granddaughter, Megan Paetzel, 3 brothers,  and a  sister.                                                                            
 
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
