   Betty J. Pettit, 80, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from a long battle with Alzheimer’s at Countryside Senior Living Center. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday July 2, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father David Hemann officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com
   Betty was born on April 22, 1936 in Newcastle, NE to Nick and Agnes (Strauss) Kneifl. She graduated from Newcastle High School and attended Nettleton Business College.  She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ronald Pettit on June 9, 1956 in Newcastle, NE. Betty worked for 4 years at the Woodbury County Sherriff’s office and 21 years at the Sioux City Police Department as a Police Records Supervisor.
   Betty enjoyed Square Dancing and Round Dancing. She volunteered for many years as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church choir and volunteered countless hours at St. Michael Catholic School tutoring children. Along with Betty’s sisters and friends, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed attending their many outings. She served as President for both the Sioux City Police Auxiliary and the Iowa State Auxiliary.
   She is survived by her husband Ronald G. Pettit; 3 sons and 1 daughter, Ronald D. Pettit; Tracie Pettit-Sininger; Jim A. (Kris) Pettit; Kevin (Brandy) Pettit; twelve grandchildren Matt, Mark, Mike, Jessa, Sadie, Britney, Andrew, Mikayla, Alexandria, Matthew, Cameron and Guy, 6 great grandchildren Peyton, Carter, Layna, Hunter, Lily and Remington; 5 sisters and 3 brothers, Mary Kneifl; Carol Minor; Linda Deabler; Mary Jo (Ed) Jones; Tony (Laura) Kneifl; Jeane (Duane) Fuchser; Terry (Kathy) Kneifl; Bob (Kim) Kneifl.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters Donald Kneifl; Jo Ann McGinty; Shirley Hoffert and Nick Kneifl.

Memorials will be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
