Robert Leonard Molstad

Robert “Bob” Leonard Molstad, 79, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. R. Paul Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation, also at the church, will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.

Bob was born November 26, 1936 in Watertown, SD; he was the son of Leonard and Jane (Wygaard) Molstad. The family lived in Watertown, SD, Winona, MN, Brainerd, MN and Aberdeen, SD before moving to Sioux City in 1951. Bob graduated from East High School in 1955 and then attended the University of South Dakota and Iowa State University. He served in the 185th Air National Guard for 23 years and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Bob married Karen Runge August 16, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. He worked in the wholesale electronic & telecom industry for over 65 years as a salesman, manager and president.

Bob was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Chamber of Commerce, the Better Business Bureau, Siouxland Amateur Radio Association (call sign, W0POD), Landmark Masonic Lodge, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, The Sioux City Consistory, The Elks Club, NRA, and the Retired Air Force Club. In 1977, Bob also served as River-Cade Commodore.

Survivors include his wife Karen of Sioux City, 3 children: Robert L. “Chip” Molstad, II of Sioux City, William “Will” Fjord Molstad and his wife Erin of St. Louis, MO, Diane Delaine Molstad of Sioux City; 2 sisters: Jane Ann Ringold of Peavy Lake, MN and Karen Lee Riley and her husband David of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren: Rob, Ryan, Ethan, Mason, Landon, Joe, Abby and Emma Molstad, 2 great grandchildren: Landen James and Wesley Robert Molstad.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Richard “Ricky” David Molstad.
