SIOUX CITY | Gordon A. Lebowich, 67, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with A. Frank Baron officiating. Burial will be in Independent Farane Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Gordon was born Sept. 29, 1948, in Passaw, Germany, the son of Martin and Fanny (Walanski) Lebowich. He moved with his family to the United States in 1950 and settled in Sioux City. He graduated from Central High School in 1967. Gordon then served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After his discharge, he attended the University of South Dakota and Morningside College. On Sept. 24, 1978, he married Janice Stephenson. Together they raised two children, Rebecca and Joshua. He worked for John Morrell for 32 years. Gordon owned and operated A-Gordon’s Jewelry and Loan for many years. Gordon was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine where he was in the clown division. He was also a member of the Cosmopolitan Club and past commander of the Jewish War Veterans. He was president of the Siouxland Soup Kitchen. Gordon was a member of the United Orthodox Synagogue and Congregation Beth Shalom. Survivors include his wife, Janice; daughter, Rebecca Lebowich of Sioux City; son, Joshua Lebowich and his wife, Carrie of Sioux City; sister, Ruth Lebowich and Steven Palash of Sioux City; and grandchildren, Zachery, Jakob, Makayla and Quinn Lebowich. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Memorials may be made in his name to the Siouxland Soup Kitchen or The Warming Shelter and sent to 910 Nebraska St., Sioux City, IA 51105.
