Duane Deane

Duane Deane, age 92, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at his residence. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Church, where visitation will be on Sunday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM. Interment will be held at a later date in Gothland Cemetery near Alcester, South Dakota. Nelson Berger Northside Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Duane W., son of Claude and Jency (Wiles) Deane, was born on May 4, 1924, at Beresford, South Dakota. His mother passed away when he was a young boy, and he was raised by his father and grandmother. After graduating from Beresford High School, Duane enlisted in the United States Army and served as a radar mechanic with the 446th Bomber Group in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.

On July 7, 1949, Duane was united in marriage with Lucille Slocum in Elk Point, South Dakota. They farmed for a short time before moving to Sioux City where Duane returned to school and graduated from Morningside College in 1955. Shortly thereafter, Duane began working for Bekin’s Moving, where he retired as Vice President in 1986.

Duane was active in Sioux City, serving as President of the Iowa Movers and Warehousemen’s Association, and was a board member at the Museum, Chamber of Commerce Aviation Committee and Better Business Bureau.

Duane attended St. Joseph’s Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed dogs and other animals, reading, camping, boating, golfing, hunting, attending car races, and traveling throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He had a great sense of humor and cherished the time spent with his family.

Duane is survived by: two daughters: Laura (Raymond) Roseland of Sioux Center and Carol (Curt) Stevenson of Sioux City; six grandchildren: Jessica Roseland, Tony(Sarah) Roseland, Kelli Roseland, Stephanie Roseland, Nicholas Roseland, and Chadwick Stevenson; seven great-grandchildren: Paige, Jalen, Taylor, Piper, Paxton, Maddie and Georgia; two great-great-grandchildren: Jaiden and Zane; and his special friend Marge Hustrulid. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
