Veramae Greteman, 88, of Sioux City died Friday, May 13, 2016, at Holy Spirit Nursing & Rehab Center following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 at Holy Spirit Nursing Home Chapel, with the Reverend Dennis Meinen concelebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary recited, and a vigil service at 6 p.m., at the Holy Spirit Nursing Home Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to

Veramae was born July 10, 1927, in Sioux City, to John A. and Marcella (McCoy) Greteman. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. She graduated from Leeds High School. After retirement, she attended several classes at Briar Cliff University. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident. Veramae was employed by Sioux Tools (now Snap-On Tools) for more than 40 years.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Altar Society, St. Jude Shrine, and the Carmel Guild. Veramae did volunteer work for Mercy Medical Center for 16 years and Trinity Heights for more than 10 years. She enjoyed playing her violin for over 40 years with the Sioux City Symphony. She also enjoyed playing the piano for family and friends. Veramae and Father Meinen even produced a record of their favorite songs. One of her favorite hobbies included managing her farms in Minnesota. Veramae and her sister, Viola Anne, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and various countries.
Veramae was an elegant woman who will be extremely missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
