Russell W. Kimpson

Russell W. Kimpson, age 82, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at a local hospital. Funeral services with military rites will be at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel where visitation with family present will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Russell Wayne, son of Wayne and Alberta (Lee) Kimpson, was born September 5, 1933, near Corning, Iowa. He graduated from Villisca High School. Russell then joined the Army National Guard, but shortly thereafter entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. After receiving his honorable discharge, Russ worked in California and Colorado before coming to Sioux City where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and diesel mechanic.

On June 10, 1989, Russell was united in marriage with Sandi Knudsen at the First United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Russell enjoyed playing cards, fishing, doing jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and tinkering around the yard. He was also a huge fan of the Sioux City Bandits, and enjoyed stock car races and going square dancing. Russ was a member and past commander of Post 64 of the American Legion.

Russell is survived by his wife Sandi of Sioux City; a stepdaughter Michelle of Michigan; two daughters Pam of Texas and Patty of California; a son Scott (Jennifer) Kimpson of Colorado; five sisters: Dolores of Missouri; Dorothy (John) of Memphis TN; Roberta (Tom), Anieta (Jack) of Griswold IA; Virginia (Warren) of Red Oak IA; two brothers: Stanley (Beth) and Steven (Stephanie) of Griswold IA; sister-in-law Jolene (Ken Krieger) of Burke, SD; his mother-in-law Velma Knudsen Akron, IA; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Russ Junior; a brother Raymond; his father-in-law Hans and a nephew Heath.
