Mary Alice Hoberg, 84 of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Daniel Rupp will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a rosary recited by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. There will be an honor guard by the Floyd Valley Hospital Nurses from LeMars, IA. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mary Alice was born October 7, 1931 in Howard, SD; she was the daughter of Luke and Marion (Maley) Lawler. She grew up on a farm in rural Howard, SD graduating from St. Agatha High School in Howard in 1949. Mary Alice graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1952 and Sacred Heart School of Anesthesia (now Mount Marty College) in Yankton, SD in 1954. She married Jack R. Hoberg October 19, 1957 in Howard, SD. Jack passed away June 26, 1994 in Sioux City. They resided in Sioux City.

Mary Alice was active in anesthesia practice at St. Vincent Hospital (now Mercy Medical Center) in Sioux City for 10 years and at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA for 32 years retiring in 1996.

Mrs. Hoberg was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, The Catholic Daughters of the Americas and she was active in the Befrienders Ministry. She was a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the Iowa Nurse Anesthetists’ Association.

Survivors include two of her three children: Dr. Richard Hoberg of Sioux City, Mary Katherine Hoberg and her special friend Rick Hartnett of Sioux City; her daughter in law: Arienne Hoberg of Sioux City; 4 grandchildren: Bradley who she raised, Kylie, Kelsea and Luke; one brother: James Lawler and his wife Christine; a sister in law: Marcie Lawler and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack; her son Thomas Luke Hoberg, a brother: Thomas Luke Lawler; brother in law Robert Hoberg and his wife Cornelia.

Memorials may be directed to Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton or Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City.

Mary Alice Hoberg resided at the Sunrise Retirement Community for the last 7 months of her life. She made many friends of the residents and staff and wanted to let them know how much she valued and appreciated them.
