Robert Alan Carlson

Robert Alan Carlson, 91 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital following an illness with Alzheimer’s disease.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Jefferson, SD. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Bob was born July 4, 1924 in Sioux City; he was the son of Arnold and Golda (Cates) Carlson. Bob grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during WW II. After being honorably discharged, Bob returned to Sioux City. He married Darlene Trudeau May 29, 1946 in Jefferson, SD.

Bob farmed in the Jefferson, SD area for many years, he worked for Bosse Oil and retired from Swift & Co in 1985.

Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 55 years. He was a member of the Isaac Walton League and the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 222.

Bob was a kind, gentle man with a great smile. He loved and found great joy in helping his family with anything they needed.

Survivors include his wife: Darlene of Sioux City; his children: Debra Clay (Gerald) of Sioux City, Robert Carlson (Linda) of Lawrence, KS, Jody Welch (William) of Sioux City, Randal Carlson (Denise) of Elkhorn, NE, Dianne Bell (Thomas) of Sioux City, Jeffry Carlson of Omaha, NE and Melissa Spilger (Brian) of Ankeny, IA; 14 grandchildren: Jennifer Niles, Brad Clay, Scott Carlson, Brandon Carlson, William Welch, Becka McGinn, Brooke Pischke, Michelle Ham, Kimberly Olsufka, Jason Bell, Haley Stoll, Ryan Bell, Nicholas Spilger and Molly Spilger; and 24 great grandchildren; 2 sisters in law: Joan Carlson and Louanne Milbrandt; a brother in law: Marvin Trudeau (Carolyn) and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Jack and Lyle.
