Sandra “Sandy” Pies, age 74, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Friday March 25, 2016, at a local hospital. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Saint Boniface Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel where Sandy’s family will be present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Sandra Kathleen, daughter of Edward and Marion (Ebmeier) Mercure, was born November 6, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School in 1960.
 
In 1962, Sandy met Melvin Pies at the Thacker Rollerink. They dated for two years and were united in marriage on December 5, 1964, at the St. Boniface Rectory by Father Salvatore. Five children were born to this couple. Sandy was a stay-at-home mom and also did daycare and worked in housekeeping at Casa de Paz.
 
Sandy was a member of St. Boniface Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, bowling, playing farkle, baking cookies, and listening to all kinds of music. Easter and Christmas were her favorite times of the year. Sandy was a feisty, spunky, loveable and friendly person who knew a lot of people and loved picking on her grandchildren.
 
Sandy is survived by: her husband Melvin Pies; five children: Brenda (Curt) Kubly, Denine (Steven) Jankowski, Teresa (Rodney) Schroder, Nathaniel (Brenda) Pies, and Tina (Jim) Cook; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchildren; siblings: Jerry Mercure, Marilyn (Ron) Millage, Pat Simon, Barb Dilley, Linda King, Deanna Mercure, and Bette Beacom. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Mercure and three brothers-in-law: Larry Simon, Dick Dilley and Bill Beacom.
