Virginia Y. “Bonnie” Behrens, 90, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at a local care center.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Martha Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, March 28, 2016 from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bonnie was born March 17, 1926 in Oto, IA the daughter of Williard and Muriel (Malcom) Eckert. She graduated from Oto High School. Bonnie was a member of the Nurse Corps during WWII. She married Raymond Behrens on June 12, 1947 in Oto. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2002.
Bonnie attended Wayne State College and St. Vincent School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She worked at St. Vincent and St. Luke’s Hospital for many years before retiring. Bonnie enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and crocheting but her great love was spending time with her family and getting special hugs from her grandkids. Bonnie was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed watching all sports, especially cheering on her grandchildren in their sports. She was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Roger (Glenys) Behrens of Sioux City, Steve Behrens of Sioux City, and Vickie (Timothy) Griffin of Rapid City, SD; Eleven grandchildren; Seventeen Great Grandchildren; and One Great Great Grandchild; sisters: Glenna Lee Walsh, Ramona Heath, Willa Lou McGarry, and Christol Headke; sister in laws: Joyce McCormick and Rosella Dage; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, a sister Gwen, and a great grandson Cody.
