Mildred Hindman

Mildred (Millie) Rosalie Hindman, 86 years old, born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 1, 1930 died at home in Ankeny, Iowa with the wonderful care of Mercy Hospice and her loving family on March 12, 2016 after a long illness.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with a lunch following the burial service at the funeral home.

She married Harry Everett Hindman in September of 1946 in Elk Point, South Dakota. He owned and operated Everett's Barber Shop and was a Machinist Mate Chief in the US Navy until his death in 1988. They had five children, Linda (Larry) Pearson of Ames, Peggy (Bill) Buckholtz of Sioux City, Debra Santos-Hindman of Ames, Michael (Ronda) Hindman of Ankeny, and Rick (Jennifer) Hindman of Johnston. She loved being a mother and a homemaker and excelled in those activities.

She worked various jobs throughout her life. She was employed by Metz Bakery, Standard Brands, Swifts, John Morrell and IBP packing houses. She was also employed at the Hilton Hotel in Sioux City and McFarland Clinic in Ames, Iowa where she relocated to in 1990 after her husband's death. She had an excellent work ethic and worked hard her entire life. Her favorite job was taking care of her three youngest grandchildren in their home in Johnston, Iowa for many years. She enjoyed following the Democratic Party races for political offices in Iowa and the USA.

Survivors include her 5 children and their spouses, 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Elma Mandicino, and a brother-in-law, Leroy Jansen, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was the daughter of Martin and Lola Stroman and had two brothers and two sisters who all predeceased her.
