Helen G. Cory

Helen G. Cory, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland, IA. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Helen was born on October 13, 1924 in Sioux City to John and Gertrude (Moniger) Wilton. She was united in marriage to Bernard D. Cory on October 24, 1942 in Sioux City. Bernard passed away on August 27th, 1986.

Following World War II, Helen and Bernie owned and operated numerous businesses together. Helen managed the books for all of those businesses. Together, they started the taxi business in Sioux City with Metropolitan Cab. They then started Radio Cab, Cabs Inc., Dial A Ride, airport limousine service, and air freight service. In addition, they owned Bernie's Tire Shop, Bernie's Used Cars, and Bernie's Lawn & Garden Center. In 1991 she sold the cab businesses. One year later, in 1992, Helen started Metropolitan Cab, which she owned and operated until her retirement three years later.

In her free time she enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Church of All Nations, Girls of ’68, South Bottom Committee, and Goodwill Auxiliary (GIVS) where she was a volunteer. 

Helen is survived by her 5 children, Bernadene (Keith) Logan of Portland, OR; Barbara Reed of Remsen, IA; Patricia (Michael) Arduini of Remsen, IA; Robert Cory (Cyndi Hand) of Sioux City; and Duane (Tammie) Cory of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
