Lori Jean Kellen, 61, of Dakota Dunes, SD, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Sunrise Retirement Community Home in Sioux City, IA after a courageous 10 month battle with brain cancer.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in the Dakota Dunes. Rev. Shane Deman will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday all at the Church. Private graveside services will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Lori was born on November 25, 1954, to Don “Izzy” and Betty (Rogers) Salem. She was the oldest of eight children. She attended grade school at Blessed Sacrament and graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1973. She worked at Security National Bank in many capacities for 38 years until her retirement in 2015.
During her high school years, she met her future husband and love of her life, Paul “Sonny” Kellen, whom she married on June 20, 1975. They were blessed with two sons, Jason and Nicholas.
Lori was an extremely caring and nurturing person all throughout her life. Her family came first, and her goal was to always keep them well cared for. When her grandchildren came along, they became her new found joy, and she spoiled and loved them dearly. She enjoyed gardening, walking, vacations with her family, decorating her beautiful home, and always looked forward to her weekend shopping trips with her mother and sister.
Lori is survived by her husband of 40 years Paul, her two sons, Jason and Nicholas (Amanda) Kellen of Dakota Dunes; Three grandchildren, Addysen, Kaylee and Easton Kellen; Five brothers, Tom (Jean) Salem, Don (Marjie) Salem, and Ed Salem, all from Omaha; Dave (Bobbi) Salem of Lincoln, and Scott (Jordyn) Salem of Sioux City; and a sister, Susie (Ron) Jones, also from Sioux City; a brother-in-law Don (Mary Lou) Kellen, and two sister-in-laws, Judy (Bob) Brouillette, and Linda (Dave) Kellen; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands’ parents, a step-father, and a brother, Dan.
