Rene Paula Wilson, 59 of Norfolk, NE will have a Celebration of Life on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Norfolk Lodge & Suites, Madison Room from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel of Sioux City assisted the family with arrangements.
Rene passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE. The oldest of four children, she was born October 4, 1956 in Morristown, NJ to Marion Ula Maloney and Hyrum LeVoy Wilson. She graduated from high school in 1974 from Belle Fourche High School in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
After graduation Rene moved to Custer, SD where she worked as a nursing assistant for the local hospital and as an EMT for the ambulance service. She loved her job and found it very fulfilling. She was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Custer, SD. She also loved to square dance and belonged to a square dance group for many years. Rene spent many years in the community of Custer making many friends and memories there. Of all the places she lived in her life, this is where she felt most at home.
After moving to Norfolk, NE, Rene worked at the Veteran’s Home. She loved her job there. She loved working with all the veterans. Rene loved being able to bring a smile to their face or a bit of comfort to them. She found it important to be a part of any community she lived in. She joined the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Norfolk where she met special people who would always be a part of her life. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxillary and The Single Wheelers Square Dance group.
The last several years of Rene’s life were spent volunteering with the Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska. She had a great love for animals and felt this was her calling in life. She fostered over 100 animals during this time. She would take in litters of kittens, animals with social issues and work tirelessly at rehabilitating them, teaching them what love felt like. Her entire life revolved around the care of these sweet souls. She was a true testament that one person can make a difference.
She is survived by her father H. LeVoy Wilson of Scottsburg, OR brother Steven Wilson of Scottsburg, OR,and her brother Laron Wilson of Salt Lake City, UT sister Amy (Tim) Henke of Castle Rock , WA nephews Tyler Wiley and son Chaz of Grangeville, ID Treavor (Brier) Wiley and son Jax of Castle Rock WA, Tanner Wiley of Boise Idaho and niece Tiffany (Bo Icalia) Wiley of La Grande OR and lifelong friend Deb Allender Baldwin of Gypsum, Co cherished friends, Chrissy & Larry Landen of Norfolk, NE, Deb Clausen of Wassau, NE. and Cinda Ohlman-Kube of Norfolk, NE.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
