Kenneth L. Girard

Kenneth L. “Kenny” Girard, Sr., 88 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at a care facility in Woodbine, IA.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at St Boniface Catholic Church. Father Michael Erpelding will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites performed by the U.S. Air Force. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

 

Kenny was born February 15, 1928 in Burbank, SD; he was the son of Arthur and Anna (Bessette) Girard. Kenny grew up in the Vermillion, SD area. He married Louise Hughes May 8, 1948 in Sioux City; she passed away September 8, 2014 in Maryville, MO.

 

Kenny was an iron worker and longtime member of Local 184. He helped build many of the buildings and bridges around Sioux City. He was also an entrepreneur and owned real estate, a restaurant and laundromat.

 

Kenny was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Siouxland Senior Center. He loved to dance and belonged to a square dance club and the NRA.

 

Survivors include his children: Teresa Girard of Marion, IA, Kenneth Girard, Jr. and his wife Kris of St. Joseph, Mo, Joann Poster and her husband John of Council Bluffs, IA; his sister: Eva Rehling of Sioux Falls, SD; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Louise, children: Larry, Luann, Linda and Douglas, brothers: Melvin, Keith, Virgil and Adlore Girard, a sister: Dolores Spray.
