Linda Lou Moe

October 19, 1927 — February 18, 2016

Celebration of Life for the Lady who loved to wear red.  Linda Lou Vanos Moe, 88. Passed away February 18, peacefully at her daughter’s home in Omaha, NE, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, after bravely succumbing to cancer.

She was preceded in death by husband, Mel Moe, parents, brother, and sister.

Linda is survived by all five children:  Dennis Vanos (Kathy) of Coon Rapids, MN; Barbara Daniluck (John) of Walkersville, MD; Valerie Harwood (Patrick) of Omaha, NE; Christine Edmisten (Charles) of Coon Rapids, MN; Debra Larsson (Peter) of Annapolis, MD; and Mel’s children Nancy VandeSteeg of Sioux City, IA, Judy Galbreath (Tom) Sioux Falls, SD, Rick Moe, Kansas City, MO.  In addition to her children, she leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her many friends.

Linda was born October 19, 1927 and was well known for her love of life and easy smile.  She started her musical interest at a very young age by singing solos at church and in school.  She took up the trombone, played the piano and the organ, and in later years sang with Uptown Barbershop Chorus.   She was up every morning before the paperboy arrived to get a jump on the days cross word puzzle.  Linda was hard to beat playing scrabble throughout the years, and got even better once it was downloaded onto her IPad. She loved working on jigsaw puzzles at Countryside Sr. Living clubhouse.  She enjoyed sewing quilts for gifts and new babies.  Every year she donated 15 quilts to Project Harmony in Omaha for homeless children.  Friendships came easy and all were invited to go out for pie, see a movie, or sit on the porch and enjoy the weather together.  Linda had a reputation of bringing homemade fudge to most events.  She belonged to Four Seasons Health Club enjoying water aerobics and keeping her friends entertained.  She enjoyed going for walks, playing golf, traveling and was game to do just about anything fun.

Most recognizable of all Linda’s attributes was her flair for wearing hats.  She was known for being the hat lady.   Linda’s love for Mel and the many years of happiness and joy they shared together fishing in Okoboji, Iowa, were the highlights of her life.  It was their “Moe’s Blue Heaven” together.  When Linda was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer 10 months ago, she never once complained or questioned God’s intent, but embraced life to the fullest.  Her quick smile and lighthearted stories carried us all through together.

A heartfelt thank you for all the great friends that supported Linda and her family during her illness with cards, phone calls, and visits.  It meant much to her as well as to the family.  A special thank you to the Visiting Nurse Association for their help and kindness.  VNA is a wonderful organization for the patient as well as the family.
